Trip to Beamish

03/06/14

Today Year 1 children visited Beamish Museum as part of their Victorian topic. Everyone was dressed in Victorian clothing and they looked fabulous.
The children visited the dentist, the house and also the shops. Their favourite, not surprisingly, was the sweet shop, where they sampled the sweets and cinder toffee.
After a picnic lunch they then spent some time in the cottages where they learned about the Victorian way of life and how difficult many household chores were.
They also had a lesson in the Victorian schoolroom and many of them were perturbed at how very strict the teacher was - not at all like they're used to! They had to learn times table and do 'curly writing' and call the teacher 'Marm'.
After a ride on the tram it was time to leave. As they arrived back at school lots of them told me it was 'the best day of my life'. Thank you Beamish.
