RE

Religious Education at our Church of England primary school sits at the heart of our curriculum. Rooted in our Christian vision and ethos, it exists to enable every child to flourish academically, spiritually, morally, and socially. Our RE curriculum ensures that all pupils develop a deep understanding of Christianity as a living and global faith, while also gaining knowledge of a range of worldviews and religions so that they can engage thoughtfully with the diverse world in which they live. Rooted in Christian Vision, our RE curriculum is inspired by the Church of England’s vision for education – to offer an education that is “deeply Christian, serving the common good”. We believe that every child is uniquely made in the image of God and RE plays a central role in nurturing wisdom, hope, community, and dignity.

Our curriculum follows the expectations of the Church of England Statement of Entitlement and
ensures that:
- Christianity is studied in depth, drawing on theological, philosophical, and human science
approaches.
- Pupils explore major world religions such as Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Sikhism, as well as
non-religious worldviews such as Humanism.
- Learning is sequenced progressively, building knowledge, vocabulary, and conceptual
understanding over time.
- Pupils encounter religion as something diverse, lived, and dynamic.
Our curriculum develops religious literacy by balancing three disciplines:

  1. Theology – understanding beliefs, texts, and sources of wisdom.
  2.  Philosophy – exploring big questions of meaning, truth, existence, and morality.
  3.  Human/Social Sciences – understanding how beliefs influence individuals and communities.

Inclusivity and Respect
RE is inclusive and accessible to all pupils. It encourages respectful dialogue, curiosity, and
empathy. RE contributes to pupils’ personal development by offering opportunities for reflection and linking learning to their own experiences. Our lessons promote enquiry-based learning, rich discussion, and the use of high-quality resources.
Preparing Children for Life in Modern Britain. Our RE curriculum prepares children to live well with others, appreciate diversity, and contribute positively to society
