Music
Curriculum Rationale
The primary music curriculum aims to nurture every child’s natural musicality, creativity, and curiosity. Through active music-making, listening, and performing, pupils develop key skills such as collaboration, communication, and confidence that support learning across the wider curriculum. Music lessons provide opportunities for children to explore sound, express emotion, and experience cultural diversity, helping them build a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
By engaging in singing, playing instruments, composing, and responding to music, pupils develop a secure understanding of musical elements and begin to think critically about the world around them. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive and accessible, enabling all learners to participate fully and experience success. Through sequential and enriching musical experiences, we aim to inspire children, foster creativity, and lay strong foundations for further musical learning.
As well as weekly music lessons KS2 children also have 1 term a year in which they learn a musical instrument.
In Year 3/4 children learn the Ukelele.
In Year 5/6 children learn the Guitar.
